Biodegradability is the chemical characteristic of natural substances and materials due to micro-organisms, so they can be introduced into natural cycles of decomposition. Once into the soil, natural substances tend to gradually decompose and disappear, turning into carbon dioxide, water and biomass.
A biodegradable product entering the decomposition cycle, brings the whole process to a natural disposal: the result is a lower presence of chemical waste on the earth and much less harm for the environment.
The toxicological test is used in order to reveal the level of toxicity inside the compound: in fact the rubber must not release any pollutant and harmful residuals, such as heavy metals on the soil.
Biodegradation starts once the rubber has been disposed, not before.
The product biodegrades completely when put into dumps or interments where other substances are already biodegrading.
So, in accordance to the test performance, it is certainly possible to state that the rubber DOES NOT biodegrade:
- with the passing of time and through the seasons;
- once exposed to atmospheric conditions such as humidity and heat outside and inside the shoe;
- in general, in any ordinary circumstance.

- it has got all the same features of a common rubber with biodegradation adjuvants added.
